Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge is one of the few luxury properties serving Parcs des Volcans, and the only one located near the park headquarters. It is a community-based tourism project whose partners are the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) and Kenya’s Governor’s Camps.

Situated in the foothills of the mighty Virunga Mountains, the property has been built directly under Sabyinyo Volcano at 8,000'. The volcano is home to several habituated mountain gorilla families. Rarely but notably, gorillas have appeared on the lodge grounds.

Each of the eight private stone cottages includes a large bedroom with attractive furniture and a covered patio, plus a full bath with complete plumbing. The cottages are spaced far apart to guarantee privacy and include fireplaces stoked at night to ward off the deep chill found here year-round. The dining area serves outstanding meals prepared from local ingredients.
