Mt. Kenya
Mt. Kenya
Mt. Kenya is Africa's second highest mountain, with a summit of 17,359' and like the highest mountain, Kilimanjaro, it is an old volcano. It sits to the entry of Kenya's arid Northern Frontier like a god guarding the goods of the fertile Rift Valley and dominates the landscape for hundreds of miles in each direction.

Summiting Kenya is actually considered more difficult than Kilimanjaro, and certain routes require professional training and implements. But there are a variety of non-summiting treks that explore its several endemic vegetation zones, including the popular "circumnavigational route" that takes 6 nights/7 days. Unlike treks on Mt. Kilimanjaro, Kenyan excursions usually encounter more game. And unlike the single peak of Kili, Kenya actually has seven, interspersed with glinting glaciers.
