Amboseli National Park
The park is actually an immense, normally dry soda lake that heaves up tremendous amounts of dust most of the year. During the heavy rains in April and May the lake may actually pool, often making visitor safari travel difficult. The center of the park is a massive marsh fed by underground rivers coming off Mt. Kilimanjaro, and this is what draws so much game. There are large numbers of elephant, buffalo, zebra, and a number of different types of gazelle. The park has good and relatively easily found cats, including lion and cheetah. The many smaller pools and above ground rivers near the center draw huge numbers of birds. |
